plants from UV radiation damage. Our findings are in agreement with Asada et al. (1998) and
Mbagwu et al. (2017) who found increased flavonoid content in Glycyrrhiza glabra, and
Gongronema latifolium, respectively, when treated with IAA.
CONCLUSION
It was concluded that IAA enhanced the morphological, biochemical aspects of Silybum
marianum, hence had a good potential for improving the growth and medicinal properties of
the plant. IAA had positive impact on the growth of root length, leaf area, number of leaves,
fresh weight, dry weight, chlorophyll, phenolic content, flavonoids amount of the plant.
Application of IAA was beneficial for overall growth of Silybum marianum.
