PG DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

The Botany department has been dedicated to delivering top-notch education in North India to instill a scientific mindset in young individuals and improve their practical skills. At the undergraduate level, the department offers three courses: B.Sc. Medical, B.Sc. Medical with Bioinformatics, and B.Sc. Medical with Biotechnology. In 2004, the department was elevated to the PG Department of Botany, becoming the first college under GNDU to introduce M.Sc. Botany. The department boasts cutting-edge laboratories equipped with the latest equipment. There are 4 Botany Labs, 1 Plant Tissue Culture Lab, a Research Lab, and a museum, creating an environment conducive to research and creativity for our students. To acclimatize and maintain in vitro raised seedlings/plantlets, the department also maintains a Botanical Garden. This garden not only aids in the conservation and maintenance of germplasm but also serves as a valuable resource for research and lab work materials for both faculty and students. The botanical garden is home to a rich variety of plant biodiversity, including Gymnosperms like Agathis, Araucaria, Thuja, Cycas, Pinus, Juniperus, Cupressus, and Zamia, as well as angiosperms like Arjun, Amla, Harar, Bahera, Rudraksh, Jackfruit, Kikar, Mahduca, and silver oak, along with various fruit trees. Additionally, the garden features a pond with a variety of water plants such as Hydrilla, Water hyacinth, Water lily and Azolla. The department also offers an Add-On-Course Diploma in Organic Farming through the community college, enhancing job prospects for students. The faculty, highly qualified and dedicated, are engaged in various Major and Minor Research Projects, regularly participating in National and International Conferences, workshops, and seminars as presenters, delegates, and resource persons, as well as guiding students in their PhD programs. Students have access to computer facilities with continuous internet access (24 hours a day) to stay updated on the latest developments in science and technology and enhance their skills. Additionally, there is a department library that provides books to students in need, in addition to the college library.
