PG DEPARTMENT OF BOTANY

Botany department since its inception is trying to provide best education in North India to inculcate scientific temperament in the young minds and enhance their practical skills. At UG level department provides three courses B.Sc Medical, B.Sc. Medical with Bioinformatics and B.Sc. Medical with Biotechnology. Department was upgraded to PG Department of Botany in 2004 making it the first college under GNDU to offer M.Sc Botany. The department is equipped with state of art laboratories with latest equipments. 4 Botany Labs, 1 Plant Tissue Culture Lab, Research Lab and museum provide an ambience of research and creativity to our budding scholars. For acclimatization and maintenance of in vitro raised seedlings/plantlets department also has one Botanical Garden. It not only helps in conservation and maintenance of germplasm but also provides research material, class work material to faculty and students. The botanical garden is rich in plant biodiversity.It has Gymnosperms like Agathis, Araucaria, Thuja, Cycas, Pinus, Juniperus, Cupressus, Zamia etc and angiosperms like Arjun, Amla, Harar, Bahera, Rudraksh, Jackfruit, kikar, Mahduca, silver oak along with fruit trees. It also supports one pond with many water plants growing in it like hydrilla, water hyacinth, water lily, azolla etc. Department is also providing an Add-On-Course Diploma in Organic farming under community college along with their degree programmes for better job prospectus. Department has highly qualified and dedicated faculty working on various Major and Minor Research Projects, regularly organizing and participating in National and International Conferences, workshops and seminars as paper presenters, delegates and resource persons as well as guiding students for their PhD programme.The computer facilities with continuous internet access (24 hrs a day) are also available to the students so that they are able to get latest information about new developments in the field of science and technology and thus they can upgrade their skills.There is a department library in addition to college library which provides books to poor and needy students.
