Hans Raj Mahila Maha Vidyalaya had stepped into its CENTENARY YEAR, proudly celebrating a remarkable journey spanning over 100 years of Academic Excellence, Women’s Empowerment, Value-based Education, and Nation-Building.

Rooted in the ideals of Swami Dayananda Saraswati and inspired by the visionary principles of the Arya Samaj, HMV continues to illuminate lives through knowledge and service.

Established in 1927 in Lahore by Mahatma Hans Raj Ji, an eminent educationist, social reformer, and a dedicated torchbearer of the DAV Movement, the institution was founded with the noble mission of empowering women through education. Following the Partition, HMV was relocated to Jalandhar in 1948. A significant milestone in the institution’s history was the inauguration of its core block in 1959 by Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan, the then Vice President of India.

Guided by the visionary leadership of Padma Shri Awardee Dr. Punam Suri, President, DAV College Managing Committee, HMV has evolved into one of North India’s premier institutions of higher learning. The institution holds an ‘A++’ Grade with a CGPA of 3.65 in the third cycle of NAAC Reaccreditation. Recognised by the University Grants Commission as a “College of Excellence”, it today serves more than 5,000 students, offering a transformative educational experience that extends beyond conventional academics. The institution possesses state-of-the-art infrastructure, innovative teaching-learning practices, and a dedicated faculty. Over the decades, HMV has emerged as a vibrant hub of academic innovation, research, entrepreneurship, skill development, cultural enrichment, and community engagement.

The legacy extends far beyond classrooms into the field of sports and co-curricular activities . Its distinguished alumni, including Prachi Yadav, Harmilan Bains, and Harmanpreet Kaur, have brought glory to the nation through their exceptional achievements on international platforms.

As HMV enters its hundredth year, the institution continues to garner national recognition for its excellence in education, sustainability, innovation, and skill development. It was honoured with the Platinum Sustainable Campus Partner Recognition, the Overall Sustainability Excellence Award 2025–26, and the Change Maker Award 2026 by the National Edu Trust of India. It also received the prestigious 5-Star Swachh Evam Harit Vidyalaya Rating (SVHR) 2025–26 from the Ministry of Education, reflecting its efforts towards sustainable practices.

Further reinforcing its academic distinction, HMV secured the First Rank in Arts, Science, and Commerce among colleges in Punjab and achieved the Third Rank in Fashion Design and Mass Communication. In the India Today Rankings 2025, the institution earned recognition among the leading colleges for BCA in Punjab. The Tribune also acknowledged HMV among the Best Colleges in North India in the streams of Arts, Science, and Commerce. It was conferred with the Best Institute in Skill Development and Education Award under the Education World Grand Jury Higher Education Rankings 2025–26.

A hundred years is not merely a measure of time; it is a celebration of vision, perseverance, achievement, and transformation. With a glorious legacy behind and limitless possibilities ahead, HMV stands poised to script many more chapters of distinction in the years to come.
