            4. DISCUSSION

In the investigation preliminary qualitative phytochemical analysis of the aqueous extracts of
Cassia tora seed and its fraction indicates the presence of carbohydrates, alkaloids,

flavanoids, antraquinone, fats, saponins and phenolic compounds. Cassia tora seed extract
has rich quantity of polyphenol and other component with significant antioxidant activity.

Antraquinone, flavanoids, saponins and glycosides are well known for their anti-oxidant and

hepatoprotective activitys. Thus present study was designed to assess hepatoprotective
activity of cassia tora seed extract against carbon tetra chloride (CCl4) induces

hepatotoxicity. Test sample cassia tora seed extract showed significant hepatoprotective

potential. In vitro antioxidant activity was performed using DPPH assay and reducing power
assay. DPPH assay showed that extract exhibits 131.771 percent of inhibition. The

investigation shows that the seed extract are rich in antioxidant activity. In vivo antioxidant
