               Abstract

The major finding of the study includes the treatment with seaweed liquid fertilizers can

increase the percentage on the germination and growth of Pisum sativum. 40 Percentage of
concentration of SLF prepared from Padiana tetrastomatica as increased seedling length,

higher growth and vigour index. The problem faced by the farmers by low germination

percentage of Pisum sativum can be effectively solved by treatment with cheaply available
               SLF prepared from Padina tetrastomatica.

Key words: Germination percentage, vigour index, productivity.

               Introduction

Seaweeds make reference to several species of macroscopic, multicellular and marine algae.

Seaweed fertilizers increase the food production as well as it improves the quality of soil and
it doesn’t have any negative effect on environment. Some of the marine algae are used as

organic fertilizers and these algae have good qualities similar to organic fertilizers. The first
seaweed product was introduced in the market in 1940’s by the use of extracts from marine

algae. This promotes the plant characters such as improve nutrient mobilization ,favour the
development of fruits ,increase chlorophyll content and leaf area.(Blunden,1991;Crouch and

Van staden,1992;Turan and Kose,2004;Strick and Van staden,2006; Khan et al.2009)these

crop improving properties of seaweed liquid fertilizers (SLF) are caused by the presence of
certain hormones present in it. Padina tetrastromatica is the most prominent seaweed in

coastal regions. It is a fan shaped yellowish brown algae including in the family Dictyotaceae

. It become olive green when dried. It mainly grows in shallow and sand covered rocky pools.
It may show high anticoagulant, antiviral properties and it contain algenic acid, a nature

polysaccharide. Green peas are commonly used vegetable which are very nutritious and
contain large amount of fibre and antioxidant. Recent studies shown that they help to protect
