Present Status of the Study Area

                       The  study  area  Pappanamcode  village  primarily  shows  rich  plant  diversity  and
               vegetation. Recently, certain problems are affecting the biodiversity of this area the major

               being Urbanization. It causes the loss of plant diversity.


               RESULTS AND DISCUSSION

                       The survey of plants in the proposed area of Pappanamcode village shows that out of
               the 503 plants observed, were 492 belongs to Angiosperms, 3 Gymnosperms (Araucariaceae,

               Cupressaceae,    Cycadaceae)     and    8    Pteridophytes   (Lindsaeaceae,    Pteridaceae,
               Selaginellaceae).  Among  the  492  Angiosperms,  395  were  Dicotyledons,  and  97  were

               Monocotyledons. Of the 395 dicot species, 144 species were Polypetalae, 175 species were
               Gamopetalae and 64 species were falls under the class Monochlamydeae.

                       Among  the  104  families  recorded,  Leguminosae  shows  dominant  species  diversity
               which is represented by 25 genera and 36 species. Compositae is the second dominant one

               with  29  genera  and  31  species,  followed  by  Acanthaceae  with  15  genera  and  29  species,
               Euphorbiaceae  with  10  genera  and  24  species  and  Apocynaceae  with  18  genera  and  22

               species. Among the 104 families, 41 were Monospecific.
