4. Endemism

               The study area comes under the Western Ghat system of mountains and is rich in pteridopytic

               flora due to remarkable variation in ecoclimatic conditions, soil types and altitudes. About 8

               endemic  species  of  India  found  naturally  grown  on  the  study  area.  The  endemic  species
               reported during the period are Selaginella ganguliana, Selaginella inequalifolia, Selaginella

               tenera,  Chirstella  parasitica,  Bolbitis  semicordata,  Bolbitis  prolifera,  Pteris  otaria,  Pteris
               quadriaurita. (Table 3; Plate 1)
























































               5. Distribution of species in different habitat of study area


               Pteridopytes are widely distributed due to the availability of favourable climatic conditions.
               However  they  need  proper  microclimatic  conditions  for  their  survival.  Some  terrestrial

               pteridophtic  genera  are  Lycopodiella,  Selaginella,  Angiopteris,  Dicranopteris,  Cyathea,
