NATIONAL CADET CORPS- A WALL OF DEFENCE

The college is known for its specialized NCC training. Two wings of NCC, namely, Air Wing and Army Wing. offer various training programmes and annual camps. 105 cadets are currently enrolled in Army Wing and 20 cadets in Air Wing. The NCC cadets have to put in a specific minimum training during the session.  Our cadets have attended 12 camps at National and State Level.

            In addition to this normal training, a cadet may volunteer for further training, which has to be approved and sanctioned by competent authority. Our NCC trainees have joined Indian Army and Air Force.  

 

Our Cadets' Achievements:

  • Cdt W/o Jeannie Katyal attended all India Girls tracking expedition camp held at Kufri in June 07 and got 1st prize in Anchoring in Rajasthani language and awarded as a best camp seniorncc2.  She won Gold Medal in Solo Dance in CATC Camp held at DAV, Jalandhar.  She also attended National Integration Camp on 7th Jan., 08 held at Palampur and was selected as camp senior and also got 1st prize in Solo Dance and Mike Compering.  She was awarded by DGNCC and excelled in Rock Climbing and River Crossing.  She attended NIC held at Rohtak and was selected as best cadet from all over the states.

  • Cdt Sgt. Vidushi Sood won Gold Medal in Shooting in CATC on 16/10/07 held at Palampur.  She got Sahara Scholarship of Rs.12,000/- p.a. at National level.  She was also honoured with Swami Vivekanand Youth Award.

  • Cdt Sgt Rozy Ohri  attended CATC Camp held on 5th Aug., 07 at New Cantt and won Gold Medal in MC.  She won Silver Medal in Pre-DCAT and Bronze Medal in MC and cultural activities and also selected for Pre-RD camp.
  • Cdt Niti Sharma won Gold Medal in Anchoring.  Silver Medal in Elocution and Bronze Medal in absticals in CATC camp on 5th Aug., 07.
  • Cdt Sgt Neha Khumbra got first prize in Poster Making and 3rd prize in Flag Area in CATC Camp.
  • Cdt Priyanka Pandey got first prize in Poster Making in CATC camp.
  • Cdt Atinder Ghumman won first prize in Skeet Shooting in CATC camp on 16/10/07.
  • Cdt Gazal Arora got first prize in volleyball in group in NIC-II held at Rohtak on 7th Jan., 08.
  • Cdt Jasmine got first prize in volleyball in group in NIC-II held at Rohtak on 7th Jan., 08.
  • Cdt Geetanjali Bombey won Gold Medal in Debate in CATC camp on 21st Dec. 07.
  • Cgt Deepti got first prize in Cooking in a camp held at Shimla.


Teacher’s Achievements

Lieut (Dr.) Jyoti Arora delivered a talk on All India Radio’ regarding “How NCC helps in personality development of NCC Cadets”.

 

Students who got selected in Army and Air Force

    

  • Flying officer Ms. Harveen Kaur

She was the only one out of a batch of 380 girls to be selected for Indian Air Force. She is the only girl cadet in a batch of 72 selected cadets. She is the first girl to be the Pilot of Jet Super Sonic Fighter Plane.

  • Ms. Sonam Puri selected as Captain in the Indian Army
  • Ms. Ashu Khindria is commissioned in Indian Air Force.

NSS

NSS aims at developing in students an insight to identify and tackle the problems and the needs of society. This builds up a democratic attitude in students, brings out the quality of leadership and encourages them to offer ‘selfless service’ towards humanity. The college NSS unit holds various awareness programs to work for eradication of illiteracy , voluntary health service camps, environment awareness camps, visits to home for the old and destitute etc. NSS volunteers are required to attend camps, which are arranged during vacations.

OTHER CELLS

 

Cell For The Physically Handicapped
HMV has proved itself to be a Disabled Friendly Institution. Set up under UGC scheme of HEPSN, this cell aims at facilitating access to higher education to the physically challenged. Providing better infrastructure like edition of a Ramp for easy mobility of physically handicapped students special equipments (braille books, general as well as course books, CDs, Cassettes etc.), counselling and placement is the endeavor of this cell. Specialised courses are designed & run successfully for the physically challenged people.


Counselling Cell Counsel
lThe Psychology Department runs a Councelling Cell which is involved in dealing with and tackling the emotional, social and sometimes personal stresses of the students.


Mahatma Hans Raj Helpage Society
The Helpage Society run by Sociology Department of the college aims at building in students a vocation to help the needy. All sort of help is organized—Financial, Emotional, Medical. The students visit Old-Age Homes, Orphanages and spend time with the inmates.


Cell For Women Studies and Development Cell
For centuries women have been suffering from slavery of all sorts-physical, mental, emotional and so on. This Cell is actively engaged in awakening the students to the crimes against women that are rampant in society. The Cell organizes safety camps. Workshops & invites students to express their views. Thereby it aims at bringing practical empowerment to the student


Heritage Society
It aims at identifying recognizing and preserving the rich culture that we have inherited but seem to have lost it in the mazes of this fast and too practical world.
